HDMI to DVI PS3 Connection?

I'm looking to purchase an HDMI to DVI cable, but prior to investing in it, I have a question regarding audio transmission. The back of the HD television has a DVI slot, with audio jacks (red and white) next to it. Now, if I were to connect the PS3 to the tv, would I be able to have audio as well. I read somewhere that DVI only transmits visual, but no audio. Thanks.
