DVI to HDMI Connection?

DVI to HDMI Connection Question?

  • I am getting a new computer, but I already have some awesome Klipsch 2.1 Speakers. What I want to do is connect my pc to my hdtv, but use the speakers also. Since DVI is only capable of transferring video signals, but my tv does not have a dvi input, can I use a DVI to HDMI cable, and connect my regular 3.5mm klipsch speaker output directly into my computer, and get sound through the speakers and video through the tv? I ask this because I know that hdmi communicates audio through the cable as well as video, and I figure it would be a problem to transmit 2 audio signals. So basically my question is, would a DVI to HDMI cable be my simplest solution?

  • Answer:

It will work by putting the speakers into your pc, but then you will only get sound that the pc makes and not tv and a game console (like ps3 and xbox 360)

Sounds logical. My only concern would be if the audio input into the PC could be added to the HDMI data stream. I guess you could try it. It'll either work or it won't.
