DVI to HDMI Connection?

HDMI to DVI connection same as HDMI to HDMI?

  • Ive just bought a ps3 and found that my tv doesn't have a hdmi connection but a dvi connection :-( Ive found dvi to hdmi cables but does this acheive the same as a hdmi to hdmi cable in terms of quality? Oh and tv is hd

    Yes, you would have to get separate cables for the audio. The picture quality will be the same as it would with a direct HDMI to HDMI connection because it is the same digital signal.

DVI will NOT pass audio like HDMI will.....You will see the picture, but no audio.

"DVI-I" stands for "DVI-Integrated" and supports both digital and analog transfers, so it works with both digital and analog Visual Display Units. "DVI-D" stands for "DVI-Digital" and supports digital transfers only. Unlike HDMI, DVI usually carries no audio data. However, it is possible for a DVI port to transmit audio data to a HDMI connection if a DVI to HDMI cable is used; this feature allows high-end computer graphics cards to send audiovisual data to a high definition television. Dunno how it would work on a ps3
