DVI to HDMI Connection?

Can a monitor with both HDMI and DVI connections be only HDCP compliant with one connection?

  • I need a monitor for a PS3. The monitor I'm looking at has DVI and HDMI connections. However, on the manufacturer's website, which is in Japanese, under the PC connections section (VGA and DVI), beside DVI it says HDCP. But under the HDMI connections where there is a circle (which just indicates that there is HDMI) there is no indication that it is HDCP compliant. So is it possible for a monitor to have HDMI and DVI but is only HDCP compliant with respect to the DVI connection, and NOT the HDMI connection? Because if that was the case, then I wouldn't be able to use this monitor using an HDMI cable. For your info I'm looking at the Syncmaster 2494. Specs are here (in Japanese): http://www.samsung.com/jp/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS24KIVKBQ/XJ&fullspec=F

  • Answer:

HDMI is merely DVI + audio on one cable. If the monitor is HDCP-compliant and has both an HDMI and DVI input, HDCP should work over either input.
