Is it normal for my amp to get a little hot?

I have a Prymaid 1600 watt 2 channel amp. I have my level knob turned just a little tiny bit pass half way and my low pass knob is a little less then a quarter turn on. I have my bass eq. set to 12. Can anyone tell me what is wrong or what I'm doing...

My amp worked for a little while and all of a sudden the RCA's melted, i put all better grounds and better RCA's and when i tried it again the RCA's got hot but i turned it off before they melted, the amp is not in protection and is on and has power...

it tends to get pretty hot after awhile and i don't want to risk damaging my amp. anyone have any suggestions? even living in Michigan, when its super cold, it still gets pretty hot.

after about 20min my amp gets really hot, i dont wanna hurt anything so i turn down the volume until it cools. i kno amps usually get warm but mine has good venelation and it still gets hot as hell. what can i do about this?

Do many people get an amp for their aftermarket speakers or do they just get an amp for their sub?
