Is it normal for my amp to get a little hot?

Why does the rcas on my amp get really hot?

  • My amp worked for a little while and all of a sudden the RCA's melted, i put all better grounds and better RCA's and when i tried it again the RCA's got hot but i turned it off before they melted, the amp is not in protection and is on and has power, the power and ground is 1/0 if anyone can help i would really appreciate it thank you.

  • Answer:

You have a bad ground to / from the amplifier. If your ground can't keep up with the current draw of the amplifier, it will follow the path of least resistance. The outer shield of your RCA's is ground. (That is why it is melting them). Take an Ohm meter and triple check your ground to your amplifier. My bet is that it has a high resistance value. Also consider doing "the big three". http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1
