Why more important computer files are hidden?

How do you see them? I know how to do everything with the .. >open "my computer" >select "tools" on the toolbar >select "folder options" >select the "view" tab >select on "show hidden files...

i tired everything i checked in "My computer" then "Tools" and their is no folder option in their. then i checked in control panel and their is no folder option. can anyone guide me to find the hidden files on my laptop. Plz tell...
