Why more important computer files are hidden?

Hidden/ Locked files on computer?

I'm running windows 7. For some reason, programs that download things to my computer like a web browser, always saves my files in a private way. The place it downloads folders to never has the folder i downloaded, but when I go into the folder view mode when you save files and navigate to my downloads folder, Then the folder I download are visible, and the folder Icon has a little lock on them. I tried everything on google to stop getting my file downloader to hide it, but every time it downloads it just hides my folders again. Anybody know how to fix this? thank!
