The ideal of representative democracy?

Is direct democracy, half-direct democracy, or representative direct democracy more democratic than representative democracy? I think it is because it gives the people more power to determine how their state is run, which I think is what democracy is...

they say we are a republic. If we aren't a democracy then how was ancient Greece where democracy was invented a democracy or was it not one?
