If its representative democracy, why is it that big money is allowed to dominate govt as much as it does?

Its because the government is wrapped around big businesses little finger. If the government decide to tax higher to banks, the banks will get up and move country. And one bank can lose our economy billions of pounds by moving. Its such a dodgy issue and a very hard one to deal with.

Corporations are not dominating government; social programs are. They take the bulk of the budget. When you are talking the will of the people; what do you mean? I think it means that the government uphold the constitution and protect our individual rights and provide for the common defense. I do not think I means that the government provide everything you want. Your happiness is your own pursuit and yes you have to pay for it yourself. And I would add it is the federal government's obligation to provide for a general welfare but not foot the bill for your individual upkeep; that is the responsibility of the individual.
