The ideal of representative democracy?

The claim that a representative Democracy isn't still a Democracy is blatantly false. "Direct" Democracy...?

  • ...is just one of many possible forms of Democracy. Why is this such a 3rd rail topic for Cons? What's their long term plan, that's the scary question.

  • Answer:

A republic is a representative democracy. We are a constitution-based federal republic. "Federal" Because we are a federation of 50 states that retain a degree of self-government. "Republic" Because we are a representative democracy in which the people elect representatives to enact legislation. @Asker: Pure democracy is a tyranny in which the majority has direct control (mob rule) and the minority has no rights.
