The ideal of representative democracy?

Is direct, half-direct, or representative direct democracy more democratic than representative democracy?

  • Is direct democracy, half-direct democracy, or representative direct democracy more democratic than representative democracy? I think it is because it gives the people more power to determine how their state is run, which I think is what democracy is about. It also stays truer to Athenian democracy, but I guess so would banning women from voting (and I don't think many people today would consider that very democratic). Do you think direct democracy, half-direct democracy, or representative direct democracy are more democratic that representative democracy and why or why not?

  • Answer:

"Democracy" is a fancy way to say, "rule by mob". They don't turn out to well (see: California) A limited democracy, a representitive-based democracy is best, as it limits the influence of the mob and puts trust into a smaller number of people who have to deal with smaller mobs only.
