Are my speakers blown?

i bought this computer fall of last year and the monitor it came with had built in speakers. Today i turned on the computer and the speakers wont work, i am currently getting sound by using a doubled ended jack from my computer to my amp, so i kno the sound output works. How can i tell if my speakers are broken? they never showed any signs of breaking. I checked my mixer (when you double click the sound icon in the system tray) and nothing is muted. What else should i check?
