What is the difference between Facebook Groups and Facebook Pages?

why is it that some pages are popular within seconds of them being created on Facebook.when I say pages I mean like product and fan pages.the same goes for groups.

New groups have a much more conversational style and migrated users may be bombarded by notifications.  Migrating hundreds or thousands of un-related users seems like a recipe for disaster.

When i comment on nay pages or groups of any facebook page, why does it appear in my friends page even they are not the member/liker of these pages.

Can someone explain the difference between these? I have some "Pages" set up in my profile, and it bothers me that it's public to whoever searches me. And why aren't "Groups" public for everyone to see? What about being a fan of something...

I've pretty much figured out how to manage my privacy options on Facebook. Apart from one thing.... I've looked at all the options but their doesn't seem to be an option to make the pages, groups etc. that you are a member of public/private. Everything...
