What can you do about swollen ankles?

I don't know if it's just my shape but i have thick calves and ankles and i really hate it. I thought maybe they could be swollen cause i've heard of ankles being swollen cause of certain things, but i'm not sure?

My husband is 67 years old, has a pacemaker, and is taking a number of medications including cardizem and crestor. The ankles are swollen and he doesn't seem to think it is anything. He gets plenty of exercise...and his blood pressure is controlled....
