Does anyone know what might cause swollen ankles?
-
hi, every now and then I get swollen ankles, you can see the bump and its a bit sore to the touch, but not while walking or anything. I go jogging and go to the gym quiet regular so i am quite fit.. Could it be water retention? I am 5'3 and weigh 115. Thank you for any help

Answer:
It most likely is water retention. When was the last time you had your blood sugars looked at and have had you blood pressure checked. What you can do to help and even prevent retention is raise your feet for a half hour or even an hour while watching tv at night. This will help drain off the water. If this keeps up talk to your doctor you may require a water pill to help. Good luck.

Your swollen ankle could be as a result of one or several reasons. Swollen ankles can be as a result of poor circulation, water retention caused from a deficiency of Vitamin C, Vitamins B1, B5, B6, protein (albumin), a symptom of kidney problem or liver problem. Swollen ankle is common among women that are on contraceptive, who are pregnant, a symptom of P.M.S. or menopause. If you have just started your jogging routine, it could be that the muscle is a little strained. Make some adjustment to your diet for a few days and if there is no improvement then have it checked out by a physician. Include in your diet citrus (orange, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime etc), pineapple, cantaloupe, papaya, nuts, whole egg, fish, broccoli, watercress, kelp, asparagus, beef, carrots, spinach, sunflower seeds, molasses, bananas, avocado, plantain, potatoes, and corn. Include fresh raw vegetable and fruits juices as well as extra water in your diet. Drink up to 10 glasses of water each day.
It could be any number of things. Water retention could be one of them. Even though you're thin, don't rule out high blood pressure. I am 115 as well and I'm 5 ' 7, and I have high blood pressure. Talk to your doctor!!!
