How do you get rid of skunks in your yard?

my dog keeps getting sprayed by skunks, i need to know how to get rid of these nasty animals!!!!

My friend has a family of skunks that lives in her front porch. She would trap them every year and bring them to another location. But they keep coming back. Is there anything she could use to prevent them from coming back every year?
