How can you tell if you are singing from your diaphragm?

I've looked at many answers here on how to sing from your diaphragm. I've made sure my shoulders aren't rising and its just my belly going out and in. But it still doesn't feel any different or sound any different when I try singing. So how can you tell...

I have no idea if I am singing from my diaphragm. How can I tell if that's where I'm singing from? I think my singing will be a lot better if I can do this. Please give me step by step instructions for singing from my diaphragm. Thanks.
