How can you tell if you are singing from your diaphragm?

How do you sing from your diaphragm? i dont really get it?

    You can't really feel your diaphragm. But, you can feel its results. When you take your first deep breath to sing, you should notice two things: 1) your shoulders don't move; 2) your stomach sticks out. I know this might not sound very attractive, but we're trying to make music here, not be a model. Let your stomach stick out! Now, when you start to sing, your abdominal muscles should be tight, like you're doing a crunch. That will give your breath the deep support it needs.

lie on the floor. place a thick (not too heavy) book on your stomach. If the book goes up and down, then your singing from your diaphragm. when you sing from your diaphragm its hard to explain. (Try a deeper, and louder voice)

you sing pushing from your diaphram. instead of singing from your nose. push the air out. from your tummy.

put your hand on your stomach and take a deep breath to sing a note... if your stomach expands outward, the air you have breathed in is in your diaphragm... push the air out from there as you sing... (if you are not doing it correctly, then you are filling your lungs with the air and not your diaphragm) practice, practice, practice (and good luck!)

The way my choir dierector taught me was to have you sustain a note and then he'd poke you in the diaphragm to show you how much more power you can get from there. Have someone poke you. :)
