Help with Comcast DVR?

I just got a DVR from Comcast and I am trying to set it up. My old cable box was a Motorola DCH3200 and the new DVR is a Motorola DCH3416. I am trying to plug the DCH3416 into our wall cable outlet, which worked fine with the DCH3200, but the wall outlet is a female outlet, and the cord that came with the new DVR is also female... the cord that we used with the old box was male, though. Is this normal? And how do we set up the box with this problem?
