Is it possible to adjust the display brightness on my Dell Latitude?

I just bought a new Dell XPS L502X laptop and the volume up/down buttons don't work, but the mute does. The brightness doesn't work either, I haven't tried the other options on the F(#) row. However, there is a touch pad up top with a "tools"...

For a long time I had a battery that was almost dead on my Dell Latitude D620. So when my display screen would become several notches darker when on battery power, I dismissed it, thinking the battery just didn't have enough power for full brightness...
