Is it me or are S-video cables hard to insert?

im using the red yellow and white cables for my xbox 360 and im wondering if s video would give me a better picture

Is there a significant change in quality when using an SVIDEO cable as opposed to the original audio/video (red, white, yellow pronged) cables? Can anyone really tell? Especially for things like recording off of tv with a dvd recorder?
