Is it me or are S-video cables hard to insert?

  • im having trouble inserting my s-videos cables into my tv and on my dvr its killing my fingers

  • Answer:

Yes they are a pain. They have to be aligned just right. Many plugs have a little arrow, to indicate "this end up". but there is no standard for which way that should go (sometimes it is down). What I do is look at the jack on the TV or DVR and note that two pins are closer together than the opposite pair. Use that to orient the jack before inserting.

Being a former cable guy wih 5 years experience, I can tell you S-video cables are a waste of time. It's the same thing as the yellow cord on a set of rca cables. You still have to supply seperate audio cables. I can't see the difference between S-video and rca cables. Others swear there's a difference, but that's just me. Not know what kind and how old your tv is, I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

I agree. I've always found S-video plugs to be the most difficult A/V connectors to insert. You have to get the plug oriented just right or it won't go in. It's very dificult to do by feel. Shine a light into the socket and observe where the all the pins go and do it visually.
