Is it me or are S-video cables hard to insert?

I have problem booting my pc, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot devi?

  • when i opened my pc it says in black screen "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" i already checked the disc room if there's any cd on it and i checked also the usb port but there is nothing inserted in the ports so i assumed that the problem in my pc is inside of the tower. i will try to open it since i have a background in assembling parts of the mother board and its cables inside because i took a 1 yr course about it but do u think its wise for me to do it for myself? im just 15 yrs old. tnx for the help i also want you guys to help me what to do. or what i will check inside it... tnx

While the specific problem could be cabling, power, or another type of failure, that message commonly means that your hard drive is toast. However, if you have diddled with your boot ROM configuration, it is possible that you told your system to not boot from the C drive at any time. Normally, the boot ROM is set to allow you to boot from CD first, then hard drive. (Nobody boots from much else these days unless you have a USB memory stick that contains an operating system - and that is rare outside the government.)

Boot from the OS install CD, once it starts it will ask if you want to run the repair console, say Yes. Once it starts, do two things run "fixmbr" then run "fixboot .scannow". The first repairs the Main Boot Record, the other recreates the bootloader. If they don't work, then the MBR is damaged beyond repair. You can put it into a different computer with a HD, and use it as a second drive. You should be able to backup the data on the disk.

It may not be a hardware problem. However, it's always nice to see if it's some kind of wiring issue such as hard drive connections or RAM connections. I have a hunch that it could be a software failure and that you need to reinstall Windows (or whatever OS you have) as it maybe a Boot record problem.

the problem you are describing is not windows related. The computers BIOS does not see the hard drive or does not see it at bootable. most often this is a result of hard drive failure. replacement is your best option. though you can take the computer to a computer repair store and maybe salvage some of your files.
