Why do I have trouble with my display picture not changing?

I'm new to using yahoo questions and answers, how do i get a display picture next to my display name?

ok whenever i save a picture and i upload it it keeps saying "this picture is not a jpeg file" wtf...it doesn't even have a jpeg option in the saving screen

My brother took it upon himself to update my Win XP computer yesterday. Now the display is on the lowest resolution and it seems unchangeable. I go to the control panel and have tried numerous times without success. Any idea what's wrong?

i've been trying to change my picture on my IM... i tried through the window and i tried through messenger preferences.. does not change. i deleted the pic originally up and it now just shows a white box............. HELP! i have version 7.5
