What could this pain above my kneecap be?

on the left side of my left knee cap, i'm having some pain when i bend my knee.. the pain starts from the top of the kneecap and ends at the bottom. it hurts when i have to squat, bend, and stuff... i don't know what i did to it, but it's been hurting...
