Hormone Replacement Therapy Question?

I've heard that taking female hormones has a major effect on dampening the male libido, but am not sure what this means. Does it mean that you no longer wake up every morning with an erection and feel the need for sex several times a day? Or does it mean that you still feel the constant need for sex but are just not able to perform? The former state would be quite desirable as freedom from male urges. The second would be quite intolerably frustrating, any advice welcome.
