I have only been going to therapy maybe 3 months for bulimia, cutting and depression. i still have ups and downs but now my medication is kicking in and i feel better. i still continue to self injure and purge but im terrified of stopping therapy and getting better. if you've gone to therapy how long did you stay in it?

Answer:
I was going to therapy for 2 years, but that was with psychologist.... then i became worse and i went to psyciatrist and i was diagnosed with schizotypal (psychosis).... but anti-psychotic medicines are very difficult for me to tolerate becuase their side affects make me very agitative, bring more anxiety and it feels very strange... sort of very scared. I was hospitalized for 5 months in psy ward with mild medication. Things were not working, so I travelled back to my family, and saw another psyciatrist he diagnosed just depression and anxiety and gave medication which is working well, but i need anti-psychotic too but i cant stand it. This is a problem, i am very worried what to do..., my life is hanging

Well I had to go to therapy so that they cold prescribe me my lexapro (anti-depressants) anyways i was in there for about 6 weeks, even though they had already given me my meds i wanted more therapy, anyways i was convinced that i needed more therapy to stay happy. Because i really have no one to talk to about my problems but one day i didnt go because i was sick, and i relized that i would be ok without the therapy. and you will be too. good luck =)

I have never gone to therapy, but everyone copes with different issues differently. Honestly stay there until you feel better. The doctors no matter what they are for, take an oath. The oath consist of making and helping a person being better or to normal standards. A doctor intention should never be to hurt a human being. You should feel proud that you recognized that this was not healthy for you and took steps to make it better. Remember it has only been 3 months and it takes time not everything will happend overnight. As for myself I can tell you that I have a habit of scartching my feet everytime that I have anxiety. Many times I will scratch them until they bleed. They say its athleets feet but I know its not that. I have had this issue for 12 years. I can sometimes control it , but when things get really tough I know that I have to get help. Doctors and therapist study a lot and understand a lot dont feel afraid to ask questions. Hope that with time things get better, I wish you all the best.

I'm not going to therapy, I never will and if I did I would stay there for no less thn 30 seconds. The only way you would see me there is if I come to check on a friend. No one is putting me in therapy....NO ONE!! Therapists say they understand but they really don't. Just outta interest what did they say about the wrist slitting and depression thing?
imscrewed.
i went in to therapy for anxiety and then as i got better i continued for family problems and just to talk. i stayed in for a few months and then stopped and then came back like maybe 6 months later and i just stopped. so i did therapy for about a year total.
