MX Riding Boots for bigger calves/legs?

I have been riding for a long time but always miss shifts with mx boots, the current ones are alpinestars and i have no feel with the shift lever. any advice on positioning my foot or tips? i am riding a 125 mx bike now and if the shifts are not well...

What do you think? Do they make a difference compared to riding/ racing in other mens boots? If not, any recommendations. (I'm a female!)
