How to stop AIM from popping up?

I am away from aim a lot. But my friend AIM me when I'm not using AIM. Pretend I'm using something else on my PC, then aim will pop up. It's really annoying., How do I get it to stop popping up?

theres 2 security update notifications that keep popping up on my computer that i dont wanna download the one for mcafee and aim. is there any files that i could delete to make em stop popping up?

I know that when you start up your computer both aim and yim pop up on your computer. I find this really annoying and it tends to make my computer slow. If anyone knows whether or not aim has a button that I can click to make it stop popping up.
