How does pausing live TV work with Sky+ and Virgin+?

I live in a block of flats with communal dish installed about 2 years ago.we have the aerial sat points installed ready to go and I am an existing sky customer.Last week someone in an unmarked van was on the roof drilling and now a messy cable is coming...

Only started a few days ago, but now when I press pause when watching live TV, the "live pause" and logo comes up in the bottom, but the liv pictures continue, as does sound. So I ask what can I do to reset the whole thing? Preferably not deleting...
