How can I know if my billabong board shorts is an imitation?

I havent gone swimming in a while and im about to go on a cruise. I asked my friend to get me some swimming trunks and i got like 5 pairs of board shorts form Hurley and Billabong. Are these like swimming trunks? Im supposed to wear boxers under them...
