Has anyone worked as a census data collector (door-to-door)? Please share your experiences PLEASE!!!!?

I just got an offer for a position as a census worker in Chicago, I am a little apprehensive because the neighborhood I will be working has some 'sketchy' areas, and I am required to go door to door asking personal info of residents. I am contemplating whether or not to accept the offer. Anyone have any good advice, or better yet, has anyone actually been employed as a census worker? Share share share - thanks people!
