Has anyone ever worked for the U.S. Census?

Johnson's Court off Grafton street. Can anyone tell me what type of street it was/is?

  • My Mum is trying to untangle our very confused family history which is full of dodgy info and documents that don't add up.. Anyhow, her Grandparents lived and worked here circa 1900 as Tailors. We know they were Jewish, but on the census are recorded as Roman Catholic. What she is keen to know - was this road ever part of the Dublin Jewish community? I appreciate these things are transient so it's a long shot, but I'd be curious to know if there are any modern day indications or if anyone remembers anything from the past.

  • Answer:

Johnson's Court is a small narrow street running between Grafton Street and Clarendon Street. At the moment it is the home to a number of mostly jewelery shops. You can just about see it on Google maps street view now. I don't know if it was part of the Jewish community. I always believed that the Jewish community were centered around the South Circular/Clanbrassil Street area.
