Can you get stitches on your tongue?

My 10 yr old bite his tongue while playing football.

I'm aiming this question towards anyone who works in a hospital or for some odd reason has had a similar experience- not for anyone who wants to criticize my decision to pierce my body, or knows nothing about this subject. I have quite a few body piercings...
