Can I switch a cell number to a land line?

I'm having problems with getting calls on my land line from folks trying to reach a doctors' clinic who can't seem to dial that number correctly. I would like to cancel my current land line number and be able to use my cell phone as my land line number...

but I can't call either I tryed calling from my cell phone to both but nothing now I try from my land line but I get a message that says it can't be completed and to check the number the number I dial is as follows(011+212+the number) but I looked around...

Some time you get a miss call on your land line or on cell phone from a number you don't recognize. How you can tell if the caller was calling from a land line or from a cell phone.

eg. I am using a Toronto land line calling a cell phone which has a Toronto phone number. But the person with the cell is in Niagara Falls on a trip.

I know if I call another land line, it shows as Unavailable on their caller ID. But will it show my phone number to the cell phone I'm calling?

I'm afraid that if I cancel my cell service first, the number will somehow become restricted from use or taken by someone else...
