How to gain citizenship if illegal?

  • I am Jose, I am 22 years of age. I immigrated to the U.S. illegally with my parents when I was 15. I want to gain citizenship, can anyone help? Also if I gain citizenship can I help my parents gain theres? I have two younger brothers and a younger sister, they are legal here.

Currently, there is no way for you to get citizenship while you are here illegally. Marriage and babies do not change your status. The only way to get citizenship is for you to return to your country of origin and stand in line like everyone else. I am so sorry your parents put you in such a difficult position.

If you and your parents leave now, your little brother can petition you and your parents when they are 21. Other than that, there is no other way. Your first step is to become an legal permanent resident, then later you may apply for naturalization and become a US citizen. Keep in mind that if you entered the country illegally, you are most likely ineligible to become a permanent resident even if you marry a US citizen.

Did you graduate from High School - if so, you can join the military (for a minimum of 2 years) and I believe they still are granting citizenship from your service to this country. Go to the various recruiting offices and ask.
