How do I reset my preferences back to their original defaults?

If I reset my router to factory defaults, will I lose data about ip adresses of computers that used my router?

  • I suspect that someone has been using my router for wireless internet access and I read you can find that out when you access your router's settings or something like that to view all the ip adresses that used my router , the only problem is that i forgot my router's password so i'm gonna reaet it to factory defaults , will that delete the informan i wanted ?

You can get your router password very easily. The best way to do it is to go to a computer where the wifi can connect. Then in the bottom right hand corner of your screen right click your network icon and choose "Open Network and Sharing Center". From there on the right hand side of the window choose "Manage Wireless Networks". Then select your network by clicking on it once, then right click on it and select "Properties". This will open a dialog box the network you selected. Select the security tab, then click the show characters box under your network password. You can also get your router password by browsing into your router. To do that you would have to type your default gateway address into the address bar of an internet browser, then hit enter. You will then be prompt for a username and password. They are probably still at their default states so the username should be admin, and the password will be either admin or password. Once in your router you can browse through the tabs. You'll want to look for the wireless or security tab. That's where you network password will be found.

Yes the data will be lost, but don't worry about the IP data being lost, all the devices will be assigned new IP's when the router boots back up again. You could have had two or more devices use the same IP before, so the information might not be reliable in the first place. You would need to use MAC addresses for that.

Yeah as said you will loose the required data(the mac addresses) but you can try this http://download.cnet.com/Who-Is-On-My-WiFi/3000-2092_4-11895772.html
