Why doesn't a Nissan truck run smooth in overdrive?

1994 Dodge Dakota Overdrive Issues not working help!!!!!!!!?

  • 1994 Dodge Dakota just bought it and the overdrive switch doesnt do anything if you push it but you can clearly tell the truck is running in overdrive off... I would love to take this truck down the hwy and not kill the engine or tranny so please do you know what could be wrong? Before you answer I changed the switch today no difference. I changed the speed sensor and the nuetral sensor on tranny no difference. What could cause this tranny to not go into overdrive on??? I know alot of people may say the tranny o/d silenoid but the switch wont even switch on or off. This V6 94 has the switch for overdrive not located on the steering column ... Any help would be appreciated..It has to be something simple..All gears shift fine...I just hate burning up sooo much gas I dont haul anything and would just like my truck to run correct. Gary

  • Answer:

you need to check the brake light switch and also check the main switch for over drive if it goes out that will cause it not to go in to o-d,most common thing i run across is someone has placed their foot under the brake light switch an knocked it out of adjustment on them, and they are adjustable, good luck.

The only thing I can suggest is check the brake pedal switches -- if it thinks the brake pedal is pushed, it won't go into OD. Do some simple voltage tests on the brake pedal switches to see if they are operating properly. Good luck.
