Exercises for improving golf game?

  • I'm only a freshman and going for the golf team and I'm a average player. I want to know some exercises to improve distance, stability stuff like that.

  • Answer:

Do you mean high school freshman or college? I was a decent player myself in high school and in my first few years of college. I was a some what small guy. 5ft 9in and about 135lbs. That's when I was 17, I'm now 22 and weigh 191! Ha ha, but it's all from working out. I've gained INCREDIBLE distance on all my clubs, the only thing I have noticed is some loss in flexibility. I workout my entire body throughout the week...if your looking for a general golf workout I would focus on abs(core), quadriceps (legs) and all the muscles in your arms especially triceps and fore arms. Chest plays a part in the golf swing as well but not as big a part as the areas I just listed. Since the golf swing is short bursts of strength, don't worry about doing high repetitions like everyone recommends. Start your workout with a warm-up of your choice, first set of all exercises should be 12 repetitions, second set (go up in weight) 10 repetitions, third set (go up again in weight, this is your final set) 8 reps. Do this for any exercise your doing. You should see distance gains in two weeks if you stick with it and you will see your control of the club improve within a few days. Good luck dude.

a simple exercise is to spend some time swinging some weights (just like you swing a golf club, but with dumbbells (weights) instead). This video should be helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qoYF4hxl14

Most important is to stay healthy. So limber up. Stretch. Your knees, hips ankles, wrists shoulders And swing easy and extended no power because you don t want to hurt yourself

to hit it longer you need flexability and balance, without those you won't hit it consistantly long
