Best Exercises for Golf?

Question about exercises for golf!?

  • Hi! I am looking to focus on golf and am hoping I could get a few suggestions on what kind of workout to do to get stronger for golf (like cardio, stretching, weight lifting). I have 16 kg kettlebells and then 8 kg kettlebells, some rope thing that's hard to do (you hook it through a kettlebell and wave it up and down or side to side so it oscillates), a treadmill, a rowing machine, an elliptical, stability balls, and some weights to use. Thanks for your help!

  • Answer:

Look up TPI, Titleist Performance Institute. They have very good workout ideas that will help you overall in any sport, and I use them for golf. They are a very well known training institute, and most top trainers in the country get their workout ideas from them.

There are many exercises you can do, it's just a matter of focusing on the correct areas of where you want to improve. For me I do a lot of stretching and cardio. I love both answers, so I'm just adding my $.02. Don't forget about flexibility. Strength training is good, but not at the expense of flexibility. Pilates, or some other type of yoga, is great. Kim Roberts has a bunch of videos- many on the Golf Channel's website- that will keep you limber without making you feel like a human pretzel.

most of all is flexibility, stretch, limber up so you don't hurt yourself. you don't slam a golf ball, you slap it, so you don't need big muscles.

Some workouts using your shoulder turn may be good. Also workouts that increase flexibility.
