How to join French Foreign Legion?

Would I lose my veteran benefits if I join the french foreign legion?

  • I am an American veteran from the armed forces who has served in combat operations. Would I lose my American veteran benefits if I join the french foreign legion? I understand that under law I cannot join a foreign military unless it is of an allied nation, and I must have no acts or plans (that I must sign legal documents stating this) of treason against my country of origin. The FFL requires 5 years of service before I may be eligible of obtaining a french passport. This means at some point I will be able to legally have a dual citizenship. Last question, if service in the foreign legion "erases your existance" in your time in service, how is it possible to return to your old identity without your original government finding out about foreign military service?

  • Answer:

Yes. You'll loose everything. Nationality, free will and your identity. It is not a club. A fighting machine. Peace.
