Is it possible to get mono twice?

Is it possible to get mono twice?

  • Last June, I noticed that I was feeling really lethargic and was exhausted all the time. My mom figured I had mono, since it had been going around in school at the end of the year. Sure enough, when I got tested, it showed that I had a mild case of mono. Pretty much the only symptoms I had were fatigue, and enlarged spleen and lymph nodes, and a sore throat some weeks prior. Now fast-forward six months. I haven't been to school hardly at all for this week (and tomorrow's friday) because I'm too exhausted. I've been sleeping all the time, and I couldn't summon up the energy to go to a choir/band concert that I was supposed to preform in. My mom thinks I've got mono again, but I don't really show any other symptoms besides the achey tiredness. (Just like six months ago) Could I have mono again? I've got an appointment to get checked out soon, but I want to know if it's possible to get mono again after a mild case like mine.

you are having a recurrence of the mono you had - not another case.

Yes it is. Once you have mono, it stays in your system and kind of flares up again occasionally

It's absolutely possible to get mono again. Be careful.

It's not possible to have mono twice.

Once you get it (usually from saliva based actions, like sneezing, kissing, etc.), the virus will continue to live in your body. The actual name of the virus is the Epstein-Barr virus. People generally develop antibodies. However, recurrence or flare-ups can occur.

once youve had mono once you have it for your life. it will go away for sometime but once in a while its symptoms may come back

yeah !

I was told once that I had "chronic mono" because I had mono like symptoms more than once in my life. I have also been told that once you have mono you will always test positive for it because you will carry the antibodies for the disease for life. You could be suffering from anemia as well. Good luck at the Dr's
