Workout in treadmill?
-
I'm starting my workout routine today. My cardio is going to be on the treadmill and was seeing what would be the best way to get the best workout in. Should I do intervals or just one set speed. How many minutes? I want to do a session in the morning and one at night. Should I also add some crunches in after? My goal is 40 pounds in 2 or 3 months. Thanks and 10 points and five stars :)

Answer:
I lost 40 pounds in 3 months by using the treadmill once. I did about an hour a day and did intervals. I'd run/jog for a while then walk, run again then walk, and just did it by how long i could go. Sometimes I would just walk and sometimes I would jog all the time. As long as you do it, you will lose weight. Good luck.

Depending on your fitness level now you may want to start with no incline at a moderate pace like speed walking. After a week then intervals with hills are the best that is how I started. An incline of no higher than 5 is good and depending on the machine speed will adjust from slow to fast and the incline will adjust to. I also use ankle weights when I walk on the treadmill for extra toning benefits I got them at walmart for $20 Gold Gym brand and on there boxes they tell you what pounds are best for what your trying to do. Also if you can get your hands on an elliptical that would be very good to. elliptical have less impact on your joints and burn more calories. (10 calories a minute) I stay on that for 30 minutes and burn 300 calories consistently. Crunches would be ok but they can put pressure on your back I cant really describe the ones I do at the gym but i would google some and look on youtube for some. and if your worried about belly fat my trainer says berries all kinds help to reduce belly fat

Intervals are the best for overall fat loss, but running at a consistent, maintainable pace for 30 mins is good also. I would mix it up so that you don't get bored. Keep in mind that if you are doing intervals, you need to either raise the incline or the speed to outside your comfort zone to get the most benefit. Once you build up your strength and endurance a bit, try this (I do this at my crossfit class and even 2 years later it is still a killer workout. NOT FOR BEGINNERS): - raise your incline to the full 15% - take the speed to a level where you can no longer walk, you have to run. do not hold on to the handrails as you run. - do a set of 10, 30-second sprint intervals. run for 30 seconds, then jump off the treadmill and do 10-15 push-ups, squats, sit-ups, whatever you feel like working for the day. Try and get them done in less than 30 seconds, so that each set takes a minute. You should be able to complete 10 sets in about 10 minutes. You will end up having done 100-150 pushups/squats/sit-ups, and having run for 5 minutes at a very steep incline. It's gonna hurt, but you will feel like you accomplished something!
