Why is my car making a whinning noise?

  Check the transmission fluid level, typically it has to be checked when idling and hot (the dipstick will say for the transmission). Also check the power steering fluid level but if it doesn't make noise while in Nuetral or Park while revving the engine then it's probably not the pump. I doubt there is much you can do if the trans fluid level is fine, it may just be a clogged filter in the tranny which isn't an expensive fix. I doubt its a terrible problem yet
