Why is my Sirius Radio so quiet?

I have a Starmate 1 that I suspended service on in 2004 and know for certain that the subscription was canceled. I broke the antennae on my car and chose to just install the Sat Radio because I've gotten tired of all the commercials on radio. Anyway...

When I start my sirius radio I get the "X"... (No Reception) and as time goes by it starts to build. Usually about 30 minutes after turning it on, I have full reception and everything is fine. Does anyone know what's going on here.
