Who can help me with my iPod?

my 4 gb, 2nd gen ipod nano is pluged in and says that its charging. but it doesnt show up in itunes, so it wont sync. wat can i do? i have tryed reinstalling itunes, using a new canle, and reseting my ipod. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
