My bank account is being levied. What can I do?

I live in California and I bank with Bank of America. My account is being levied for about $4000 by a creditor. I have direct deposit and will not have access to any of the money until it's paid off. I have automatic monthly withdrawals from that account to pay for bills and can't afford to lose my entire paycheck every time I get paid. Can I cancel my direct deposit for now and if I do, can they and will they garnish from my wages? How long will it take? I'm really stressed out, please help.
