Is xm radio service free?

I bought a used XM radio on ebay recently and when it arrived it was still activated from a previous owner. I planned on activating it on my account, but not for a few months. Should I just forget that it's already activated and just go on like normal...

Can you get XM Radio without a credit card?

I want to play music in my (future) coffee shop... does anyone know how much commercial service through XM costs? what's the range? Any alternatives?

I am interested in Oprah and Friends and Good Morning America but also like a few exclusive stations on XM. I do not particularly care for Howard Stern.
