Is there a better material for earring protective sleeves used against nickel allergies?

When my husband wasn't allergic to cats, rabbits, or dogs, around ages 8 to 13. He lived with cats and a rabbit, and visited his Grandma's often and had no allergy symptoms. Then he was around nothing but a poodle for years. He was not allergic at all...

I need to know this because I'm allergic to the metal nickel. If it means the earrings contain nickel, is there anything I can do to the earrings so I can wear them (they are dangling earrings)?
